The Danville d’Elegance Foundation is dedicated to supporting organizations in their pursuit of a cure for Parkinson's disease, while raising funds to benefit the advancement of both Parkinson's research and patient care.
Since 2004 Danville d’Elegance, highlighted by the Danville Concours d’Elegance showcasing “Cool Cars for a Cause”, has raised more than $1 Million for Parkinson's research and patient care. The generous support of our corporate and personal sponsors, as well as 200 devoted volunteers of the Foundation, have helped to make Danville d’Elegance a must-attend event on the regional calendar. The weekend offers multiple activities planned and run entirely by a dedicated team of volunteers, most of whose lives have been touched by Parkinson's disease.
More than 1.5 million Americans age 50 and over have Parkinson's, and this number is increasing. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic, degenerative neurological disorder that affects both voluntary and involuntary movement. It is America's second most common degenerative neurological disorder after Alzheimer's, affecting 1% of the entire population over age 50, and by some estimates as many as 10% of Americans over the age of 60. Sometimes considered a disease of aging, this pernicious disease can strike people at any time of life. While the majority of those diagnosed with Parkinson's suffer from late-onset (after the age of 40), early-onset (before the age of 40) impacts between 5-10% of the total Parkinson's population.
Parkinson's research depends on NIH grants and private donations, so we need your help! Attending Danville d’Elegance on the weekend of September 17-18, 2011 is an excellent way to show your support for Parkinson's sufferers, as is making a donation for research and patient care.
